Eyes For "Small (And Yet Really Not Small)" Moments

The theme for our floor this year is this post's title. It's taken from a larger quote by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I think it could really be a great motivation for me to look for the small things God is doing around me this year. :)

Today as I was reading in 1 Chronicles before chapel I was reading right along until I stumbled on chapter 29 verse 34b, where it says, "the Levites had been more conscientious in consecrating themselves than the priests had been." Now this is the part where Hezekiah is cleansing the temple after his father Ahaz's wicked reign. Normally the priests would be the ones carrying out the sacrifices to cleanse the temple but because there were too many sacrifices the priests needed help and there weren't enough priests to help out so they called on the Levites to help carry out the tasks for that day.
I think the reason this struck me was because in my mind it seems like out of all the people in Israel, the priests would have been the ones most likely to keep themselves undefiled. They were the only ones allowed into the temple itself, and the Levites, although they were from the same tribe, were only allowed to help with the worship and daily running of the temple, not the "important" stuff like sacrifices. And yet the Levites kept themselves clean during the unholy reign of Ahaz. I imagine it must have seemed pointless at times...why should they continue to cleanse and consecrate themselves if the priests weren't even going that far? But they did and when Ahaz died and his son became king, they were ready to be called upon for the very important role of helping with the consecration sacrifices.
And then it occurred to me that this is exactly the kind of moment our floor theme is talking about. Being faithful in the small, hidden moments allows me to be ready to step into the big moments when God calls me.

Making those seemingly small moments really not so small any more. :)

Sum-up of Orientation...

Basically, I will really need motivation to keep ahead of my homework/reading and to not procrastinate. That's what I got from orientation. :) There was a lot of really good things, but mostly I realized that I might get super stressed if I don't keep up the motivation to study consistently and with purpose.
As for the rest, I'm super excited about this year. :)
Last night my floor went out with our brother floor to a park where we played capture the flag and ate ice cream. Lots of fun...there's some great girls on my floor and there's some great guys on the brother floor. It was a bit strange to realize Krystle and I were the oldest ones there...but it didn't really seem like it when I was talking with everyone.
In other news, I got my post office box number, along with the address that you can use to send me letters and packages and anything else. :) Hint, hint...just kidding...but seriously....I'd welcome any type of mail. :) I'll put the address on the side panel.
Tomorrow all of the returning students start to move back on campus, so what already seems like a lot of new people to me will get even more.

Anyway, I don't have any more profound things to say...I'll have to think of something for next post. :)

I Made It!

I am all moved in!
I'm not sure that I'm completely organized/settled yet, but I have everything un-packed and my bed is very ready to be slept in tonight.
We still have to get our A/C to work, but hopefully soon it will be up and running.
Tomorrow starts a full few days of orientation, and then the rest of the students arrive on Saturday and Sunday and school will be off and going.

Anyway, more to come at a later date...my brain is a bit too out of it to think of anything profound to share with you all.

Pictures

I actually have pictures to share! :)

I took these a couple of weeks ago when my mom's family was here for lunch. The two little girlies were treated to a make-over by Kerri and they were literally jumping up and down with excitement over each addition of finery...it started with Kerri's heels and hair and make-up, then on to nails, then dresses and finally Tori added Kerri's fake glasses. It was hilarious to watch them!

Leaving In Two Days!

Hi Everyone!
I'm hoping that this blog will be fun for you all to read...and hopefully I'll update it fairly often as well. :) I have a little over a day at home before I start yet another chapter of my life, this time in Chicago.
I don't know what to expect, and that means a bit of nerves, although I am super excited...I just want the waiting to be over with!

Anyway, more to come soon!
